Brewery source photos

In case anyone is interested, this is Cascade Brewery in South Hobart, subject of that drawing I posted a week ago.

Brewery progress

Is it finished? No, but it's getting there. I am having all sorts of trouble with the tree on the left. Bloody gum trees, I have just never got the knack of them.

Fizz

Since our recent visit to the Cascade Brewery Fair, (where he had a non-alcoholic cider) Michael calls the brewery "the fizzy place".

Taxation Olympics

We went along to the Cascade Fair at the brewery today. It was a little shambolic, but the boys had fun anyway and scored matching black CASCADE beanies. There were something like 150 people there when we arived, trampling the lovely lawns to brown mush. Showbags were sold out long ago, and when we saw what was in them we realised it was a bizarre compendium of tat. Which I guess is what "showbag" means really.

The highlight was chatting to a lady Elf knew slightly, who mentioned the queue we were in was "nearly as long as the queue for the buses at the Taxation Olympics." She works in the ATO, and it appears every year the taxfolk descend on some spot (this year Hobart), and play volleyball. I asked if they argue the nitty gritty when a rule is in dispute? Apparently, yes.

Cascade Brewery tour

Elf and I have finally done a brewery tour, and had a good look inside our nearest neighbour. It's been pumping out beer up the road there for about 175 years. It has evolved and automated along the way. Until the mid nineteen-eighties there was open bar for staff on breaks. It takes far fewer people to produce far more now, so there wasn't much in the way of bustle. There are a lot of very attractive industrial scenes - here are a few.

Cascade Brewery

This is my first new drawing in quite a while. I looked back through sketchbooks, and I was drawing scenes around the brewery quite a lot about two years ago. This is a remembered night view, looking down onto the main facade with Knocklofty behind it, from Hillsborough Road.
