Full disclosure: it was wonky and I straightened it in Photoshop which had not been invented yet when I drew it.

Oh C-Man, that Signal Station has been around for years...it's not a new discovery at all!
Of course they use digital semaphore these days. They just hoist big signs with 0s and 1s on them.
